Europe’s Travel and Tourism sector is expected to expand by 3.1 percent in 2026, according to the latest industry outlook presented at the opening of the 26th Global Summit in Malta. The projected growth is higher than the 2.6 percent recorded by the sector across Europe last year.
The summit is bringing more than 1,000 delegates to Valletta, including over 200 chief executives from major Travel and Tourism companies and government leaders. More than 100 speakers are taking part in discussions throughout the event.
The gathering includes several prominent international figures. Participants include former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, former Spanish Prime Minister José María Aznar, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas and Nick Adams, the first US Presidential Envoy for Tourism.
The latest global outlook projects Travel and Tourism worldwide to grow by 2.5 percent during 2026, putting its growth rate ahead of the broader global economy. Europe is expected to record stronger gains, with spending by international visitors forecast to rise by 5.8 percent.
Spending on leisure travel in Europe is projected to increase by 3.1 percent, while business travel spending is expected to grow by 4.2 percent during the year.
Travel and Tourism continues to represent a major part of Europe’s economy, supporting around one in every ten jobs across the region. The sector also contributes to opportunities for communities, businesses and destinations across Europe.
