The death toll from the crash of a Nigerian military aircraft travelling from Benin City to Lagos has risen to 32. The victims included 25 passengers and seven crew members.
President Bola Tinubu confirmed that there were no survivors and instructed the Nigerian Air Force to conduct an immediate and detailed investigation into the cause of the crash.
Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said the Air Force ATR 42 aircraft was carrying out a routine mission yesterday when air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane.
The aircraft wreckage was later found near Igbokoda, a coastal town in southwestern Nigeria, close to a naval base. Search and rescue teams were subsequently deployed to the area.
