The Bangladesh government has said it is committed to ensuring a safe, peaceful and festive environment for Durga Puja 2026 across the country. Religious Affairs Minister Mohammad Shamim Kaiser made the statement during an inter ministerial meeting held to review preparations for the festival.
Security arrangements have been strengthened across the country ahead of the celebrations. The minister directed concerned authorities to ensure the smooth distribution of grants from the Puja Welfare Trust to puja committees.
With the number of puja mandaps increasing, local administrations and law enforcement agencies have been asked to maintain heightened vigilance. The minister also stressed the importance of social and religious harmony and urged people to respect traditional practices, including maintaining silence during the Azan and prayers.
Intelligence and law enforcement agencies were directed to take prompt legal action against those spreading rumours through old or edited material on social media. The minister also called for impartial investigations into any incidents that may occur during the celebrations.
Representatives from various ministries, security agencies and Hindu, Buddhist and Christian organisations participated in the meeting.
