Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated SEMICON India 2026 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. The three day event is aimed at strengthening collaboration, investment, innovation and talent development in the country.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi said that India is witnessing economic growth while confidence in the country is also increasing globally. He said citizens across the country are working with a shared commitment to building a developed India. He also highlighted the rapid expansion of India’s semiconductor ecosystem, saying it is creating fresh opportunities for innovation, investment and economic growth.

Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said India had been seeking to establish a semiconductor industry for many years, but the initiative could move forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the foundation has been established and the next phase will focus on developing the industry through Semicon 2.0, which is based on six key areas. These include semiconductor design, machines and materials, memory, silicon fabrication, compound and logic fabrication units, and research and development.

The Minister said the government aims to support at least 200 startups and companies in designing chips in India across different areas of the semiconductor sector.

SEMICON India 2026 has brought together more than 600 exhibitors, 300 international companies and delegations from over 50 countries. The exhibition includes six country pavilions representing Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Singapore and Sweden. It also features twelve State Government pavilions along with a dedicated Startup Pavilion.

The three day conference and exhibition is being held under the theme Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem. The event brings together Indian and global companies, policymakers, investors, researchers, startups, academic institutions and students from across the semiconductor and electronics value chain.
