MediaTek has introduced two new smartphone processors as it looks to strengthen its position in the premium mobile market and compete more closely with major chipmakers.

The company unveiled the Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600M processors, which have been developed using advanced manufacturing technologies from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. The Dimensity 9600 Pro is produced using a 2 nanometre process, while the 9600M uses 3 nanometre technology.

The new processors are designed to support the growing demand for artificial intelligence features in smartphones. MediaTek said the neural processing unit in the Dimensity 9600 Pro improves generative AI performance by 51 percent compared with its previous technology.

The new chips are expected to be used in upcoming smartphones from major manufacturers including Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo. The launch comes as smartphone companies increasingly focus on AI powered features to attract customers in the premium segment.

MediaTek is also expanding its activities beyond smartphone processors as demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure continues to grow. The company is developing custom chips and data centre accelerators as part of its broader technology strategy.

Its first AI accelerator for a major US cloud provider is expected to enter mass production during the fourth quarter of 2026. MediaTek has also raised $3.9 billion through a convertible bond offering, with Nvidia and Alphabet among the companies that invested.
