Apple has released iOS 27 as a free software update for compatible iPhone models, bringing a major set of changes to the operating system along with the company's new Siri AI experience.

The update became available on September 14 and introduces Siri AI in beta for users with supported devices set to English. Apple plans to add French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support in October.

The new Siri experience is designed to provide more natural conversations and greater assistance across Apple's devices. Users can interact with Siri by typing or speaking, while the dedicated Siri app brings conversations together and allows history to be synced privately across supported Apple products.

iOS 27 also brings several changes beyond Siri. Safari can organise tabs by topic and includes a feature that can monitor webpages for updates. The Photos app receives new editing capabilities, while Mail gets improved search functions. The update also adds changes to the interface, widgets and other system features.

The software supports iPhone 11 and later models, along with the second generation iPhone SE and newer models. However, the advanced Apple Intelligence features require newer compatible hardware.

Some features announced for iOS 27 are not available immediately. Apple has said that certain functions, including Messages Suggestions and some Passwords security features, will arrive through a future software update.

The release marks one of Apple's biggest software updates of the year, with the company placing artificial intelligence at the centre of the new iPhone experience.
