Luxury hotels in Delhi are witnessing a sharp rise in demand as the national capital prepares to host the BRICS Summit on September 12 and 13.
Several leading hotels are facing limited room availability during the summit period, while prices at some properties have climbed to more than ₹2 lakh for a single night. The increase in demand is being driven by the arrival of international delegations, officials and other visitors connected with the major international gathering.
Hotels including The Taj Mahal Hotel, The Oberoi New Delhi, Taj Palace, The Leela Palace and ITC Maurya have reported very limited availability around the summit dates. Some properties have stopped accepting regular bookings for parts of the summit period because of the expected demand.
ITC Maurya has seen room prices rise above ₹2 lakh per night for the summit period. Other premium properties are also seeing significant increases in tariffs as the available room inventory becomes tighter.
The increase is not limited to room bookings. Hotels are also making extensive preparations to welcome international delegates and provide customised hospitality services. Luxury properties are preparing special menus, Indian themed decorations and personalised experiences for guests arriving for the summit.
The Leela Palace has been preparing special food arrangements for visiting delegations, while other hotels are also focusing on regional Indian cuisine and culturally inspired experiences.
The event has highlighted the limited supply of luxury hotel rooms in Delhi. Industry representatives have pointed to the growing demand created by international summits, business events and government activity.
The BRICS Summit is therefore creating a significant business opportunity for Delhi's hospitality industry while also putting pressure on the city's available hotel inventory.
With international delegations arriving for the two day summit, hotels across the capital are operating under high demand. The situation has also brought attention to the need for greater hotel capacity as Delhi continues to host major international and business events.
