Delhi’s Air Quality Expected to Worsen From October 15 Despite Clear Skies
According to forecasts from the Air Quality Early Warning System (EWS) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) is expected to stay in the ‘moderate’ range until October 14, before gradually declining to the ‘poor’ category from October 15 onward. The deteriorating trend is likely to persist for about a week.
Meteorologists attribute the expected dip in air quality to dry weather conditions and light surface winds, which may cause pollutant particles to accumulate in the atmosphere. The absence of rainfall is also expected to prevent the dispersion of dust and other suspended particles, leading to a noticeable rise in particulate matter concentration across the city.
Experts warn that such weather patterns are common during the transition period between monsoon and winter, when reduced wind speeds and falling temperatures allow pollutants to linger close to the ground, aggravating Delhi’s annual pollution concerns.
